Ikkicon 2015!!

Ikkicon 2015!!

So this was our first year at Ikkicon!  The weather was cold and rainy at first, but fortunately the Austin Hilton Hotel was warm and toasty inside.  There were a lot more con goers than we expected and the over all feeling was busy and comfortably crowded.  The traffic was at just the right amount and we had fun talking to everyone.  We, of course, got to see a few familiar faces but it was nice meeting new people in that area.

We had a good number of fun commissions to do in addition to the usual selling of prints and buttons.  We also tried selling our acrylic keychains and found that people liked them.

We were able to enjoy our first bowls of ramen at Daruma Ramen on 6th street.  The food was nice and the restaurant itself was small with a very warm and friendly atmosphere.

There’s a bit of interest in returning to Ikkicon for 2016, however, it’s going to be on New Year’s Day, so that’s a bit tricky for us to get off of work.  Hopefully we can return again some time!

Kaede-Con 2014

Kaede-Con 2014

Kaedecon!  Jam and I had the pleasure of being at Kaede-con this past Saturday.  It was an indoor con hosted at St.Mary’s University.  And although it was indoors the weather outside fluctuated from mildly drizzling or raining to sunny and then to potential hurricane level storming.  So we knew from the get go that this event was small, but I feel like the rain probably prompted some people to stay at home.

This was our first year at this event.  The staff was warm and welcoming.  They’re honestly nice people.  The artist/vendor area was in a gym and there was plenty of space for tables.  And at this time there probably was too much space and too many artists/vendors for the amount of con-goers that ultimately showed up for this one day event.

We saw a lot of familiar faces and met some new ones too!  Can I just take a moment to just appreciate the local Hetalia fandom?  Because you guys are great.  It makes me happy to know there’s so many fans in this area of Texas.

We really hope Kaede-con will grow in the upcoming years.  It’s kind of hard to make it when the weather won’t give you a break and there seemed to be a bit of a struggle getting organized for them.  Hopefully things will smooth out in time!  It may have been a small con, but the people there were great.  The other artists were all cool and friendly and that always makes for a relaxing atmosphere!

Many thanks to Sephi Hakubi for the use of the photo!

Realmscon 2014!

Realmscon 2014!

We spent the entire weekend in Corpus Christi this weekend while attending RealmsCon!!

It was our first time at this convention and it was very fun and enjoyable! The staff was friendly and gave us water. The attendees were so excited to be there, too. We had a gorgeous view of Corpus Christi Bay from our table chairs.

This year we happened to see several voice actors. Jam was able to get a dvd signed by Rob Paulsen. We were also able to get a few of our drawings signed. Todd Haberkorn signed our Italy drawing, Chuck Hüber signed our Austria drawing and Cherami Leigh signed our Liechtenstein drawing.
We liked it so much that we went ahead and signed up for 2015’s RealmsCon. So we look forward to returning next year!!

Omnicon 2014

Omnicon 2014

So August 1-2 we headed down to McAllen for our first ever Omnicon! It was about two weeks after San Japan so we were kind of scrambling to get prepared before we headed down to the border!

Friday was pretty slow and it seems like not many attendees were there. Fortunately Saturday picked up a bit, but the con still seemed pretty small.

We enjoyed talking to many of the locals and had fun meeting up with lots of other familiar AA faces who tend to hang out in Texas. Almost everyone was friendly and we really appreciate those who visited our table.
Omnicon staff was helpful and friendly too.
We really hope Omnicon is able to grow in the future.
