San Japan 2016!

San Japan 2016!

San Japan is the largest anime convention in San Antonio and we have attended a good number of them.  We love coming and seeing other attendees, artists, panels, etc.  It’s our home con and we have enjoyed it and are always grateful and happy to see familiar faces as well as new ones.

This year San Japan shifted from being at the start of August to being at the start of September.  It is now on Labor Day weekend.  This past weekend was also a bit rainy and it was reflected in attendance, but not too badly.  2015 saw 18,411 attendees while 2016 had 16,346 (a 2,065 difference).  In addition to this, Artist Alley was juried this year and we were excited to have gotten in!  There were about 142 artists attending, too.

At this con we brought a number of new items, including buttons relating to Voltron and Sailor Moon as well as all the current Eevee evolutions.  We had some “Nyacaron” Macaron kitty themed coin purses in blue and pink, as well as cat-themed sleeping masks.

The year is winding down, in terms of cons, but Jam and I will still host the local Hetalia Day on October 22nd.

We are also going to go to this new-ish event called An Anime Christmas on December 3rd.  That’s pretty much it for this year’s line-up of events.  Though we do look forward to next year!

Otaku Fair (run by Otaku Fellowship Society) should make it debut in 2017 and we’re excited about that, too!

Mizuumi-con 2016!

Mizuumi-con 2016!

We went to Mizuumi-con 2016 this past weekend. We had a fantastic time and saw a lot of familiar faces. I (Sam) have been going to OLLU’s cons since Zero Day Anime back in 2007. Seeing Mizuumicon now spread to two days was interesting. Saturday was quite busy and there was a lot of energy to the con. We gave away some freebie macaron cat stickers and handed out fliers to anyone wishing to attend Hetalia Day in October. By the end of the day we were out of stickers.

We managed also to sell our new prints from Splatoon and Pokemon, so that was very encouraging! Sunday was, as expected, a bit slower. We got a total of 12 commissions over the weekend, so that was quite fun to do. We also happened to have our table across from voice actor Chuck Huber. We’ve seen him a number of times at other conventions (mostly Realmscon) and have had him sign pictures for us. So this time, we gifted him with a drawing of Austria from Hetalia. He was pretty pleased with it.

We’re quite excited to see where Mizuumi-con will go from here. We plan to try to attend the new con if/when it appears.

Realms Con 11

Realms Con 11

Realms Con took place in Corpus Christi, Texas about two weekends ago. Well, unfortunately as soon as we drove home we had to pack our bags for a Michigan trip and be gone for another week. We also happened to catch a cold and get sick during and after the trip. So as you can see, we’re a little late with the con update!

WE didn’t really have too much in the way of new stuff to sell. In fact, we forgot to bring our banner with the sandwich logo that everyone usually compliments us on. It’s our one memorable thing and I forgot to pack it!! Bannerlessness aside, we did fairly well as commissions were pretty popular at this con! We seem to get a good amount of requests for the postcard sized ones and they’re quick to do, so we’re grateful to get them.

Jam also had enough time to do some special cards and get them signed by the English voice talent at Realms Con! We plan to give these cards out for free during Hetalia Day next weekend. We also gave some freebie buttons to these voice artists. Austria (Chuck Huber), Romano (Ian Sinclair), America and Canada (both played by Eric Vale) were all super kind and signed our cards. We know the fans who get them will treasure them.

So far all that’s coming up for us is Hetalia Day on the 24th of this month. We didn’t want to go to Ikkicon this year, but we will be looking forward to Spring and Summer con sign ups soon!
