Mini-Mini Con 2015!

This is somewhat of a follow-up post about our experiences at Mini-Mini Con 2015! First and foremost this was a small convention held at Wonderland Mall in San Antonio, TX. It was hosted both by San Japan and Nine-Tails as a way to promote both venues as well as the mall itself. We were fortunate enough to be made aware of this convention in time to snag a table.

I’ve done conventions in a school, a hotel, outdoors and of course a convention center, but I’ve never done one inside a mall before! It was quite the experience. Firstly from our end we needed to bring our own tables and chairs. We already had a table and were ready to put that out. Unfortunately our plastic folding table had been bent in a previous usage so it was a little unsteady and we were very worried that our cheap table would fall down. Fortunately it didn’t! Another thing that happened was we had formed the grid to display our artwork as usual and leaned a foam board with our buttons on it. With the combined unstable table and small vibration of the balcony the set up fell over and hit me on the head. I was really glad that it didn’t hurt or fall over the balcony and injure anyone else.

Let’s just say we learned a lesson that day on our set up and to double check how sturdy everything we have is!

Aside from our own little problems the crowd was interesting and fun! It was nice to get a mix of anime fans and “normies”. Most people were friendly and respectful and just really nice. We did have a few people ask us what the entire thing was about. We were able to meet a few new people, too! There were a few shops who promo’d themselves to the artists as well. We’ve talked about doing consignment with various places before, but I don’t think Jam or myself have ever really sat down to talk about it seriously.

The new buttons we made sold fairly well and as always we’re looking to expand on designs. The con itself lasted about six hours but there was enough heavy traffic to where the troubles we faced earlier in the day were worth it. We hope we can be back for more small art shows like this in the future.
